The Art & Science of Drinks

The beginning of cocktails, as we know them today, dates to the 19th century, when it was defined in a New York-based publication as “a stimulating liquor composed of any kind of sugar, water, and bitters.”

The art of bartending evolved between the 1860s and Prohibition and has been classified by historians as the Golden Age of Cocktails because many of the cocktails that are famous today, such as the martini, daquiri, and Manhattan, were invented during this time.

Today, cocktail culture is alive and well thanks to American pop culture influences (think - the popularity of the cosmopolitan due to “Sex and the City,” Avion tequila due to “Entourage,” the old fashioned due to “Mad Men”) as well as an increased preference for high-quality spirits, fresh-squeezed juices, and local ingredients wherever possible.
